By design the Seattle Center is more about events, most of which are bland, boring, and forgettable, rather than activities that engage people.
So what does this say to someone visiting....
That we have a 40 year old space needle that is utterly useless unless you've got coin to dine at the top, that we have a wonderous travel invention called the monorail with a ride that lasts an exciting 90 seconds or so, and that our chief center of attractions, has none of note, for most of the year, so that if you are inclined at all to visit you have no reason to be here most of the year....that is a pretty stupid way to make an impression on people visiting, if you want them here in the first place, and even more so if you want them to stay a while.
The new Seattle Center will focus on engagement of people immediately.....a real amusement park, not the lite version that is there presently will take up some 50 percent of the current territory, most of the buildings will be torn down, including the arena.
The rest will be attractions put together with individual and neighborhood groups based on their interests, as reflected in the Seattle Summer Festival...which will in turn drive interest to those communities and their offerings...drawing visitors further into the Seattle Culture and Subcultures, engaging a visitor and leaving a powerful impression of a place to visit anytime of the year, no matter what your interest may be.
